NEW DIRECTOR JOINS THE KING OF PRUSSIA PLAYERS FOR - "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM"
The King of Prussia Players wrap up their 2009-2010 season with a new director helming a longtime musical-comedy favorite: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."
Dan Hunt brings a lifetime of experience to his debut with the Players. His 30 years of film and TV credits include behind-the-scenes stints on such locally shot movies as "The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable," "Fallen," "Sour Grapes" and "Snake Eyes," in addition to a variety of independent film projects.
He’s enjoying stretching his directing muscles in this shift from screen to stage. "Working in theater is different than the professional film arena, but I`m enjoying being surrounded by a group of people with so much fervor and enthusiasm for the arts."
But of course the main focus is the story. Stephen Sondheim penned the lyrics and music for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," a madcap comedy set in ancient Rome. Pseudolus (Larry Anderson) is the wily slave of Hero (Will Silberstein), a young man who lives with his parents Senex (Steve Kuerschner) and Domina (Susan Levy). Pseudolus will do anything to be free, and sees his chance when Hero falls in love with the girl next door, Philia (Robin Richardson). There`s just one problem: Philia is a courtesan already promised to Captain Miles Gloriosus (Dave Silberstein). So Pseudolus makes a deal with his master: If Hero gets the girl, Pseudolus gains his freedom.
What should have been a simple plan-help Hero woo Philia and ditch the inconvenient captain-soon becomes a mix of mistaken identity, double-crosses, surprise family reunions and looming disaster as slaves, citizens, soldiers and a group of sexy courtesans find out what can happen on the way to the forum.
